Connect with the HM Community

The Magnificat community remains closely connected to the Sisters of the Humility of Mary who founded Magnificat in 1955 and have sponsored the school for nearly seven decades. Thousands of women had HM Sisters as teachers and mentors during and after their time as students, and our alumnae along with current students, families, faculty, staff, and friends treasure the connection to the HM Sisters' spirit, mission, and charisms.
Connect with the HM Sisters through the opportunities and events listed below, which will be updated as they become available.

Become an HM Associate or Covenant Companion

Both the Humility of Mary Associates and HM Covenant Companions are currently inviting people who may be interested in learning more about these HM relationships. 

The HM Associates are open to both men and women.  Interested people can contact Anne York Romanoff for more information and/or to receive an application packet.  Her information is on the attached flyer.  Associate applications are due by the end of February.  The formation sessions begin April 28, 2024 and are mostly held on Sunday afternoons, ending in April 2025.

Covenant Companions are open to women.  On Feb. 17 in the afternoon there will be a discernment session via Zoom for women interested in learning more about the Covenant Companions.  A flyer about this opportunity is attached.  Interested women can contact Sr. Anne Victory or Sr. Toby Lardie for further information or to receive application materials.  Applications for the Covenant Companion Relationship must be requested by May 1 and completed application materials submitted by June 1.  The formation weekend sessions begin in September and are held quarterly over a two year period.

Covenant Companion Relationship
with Sisters of the Humility of Mary
In our latest episode, we are joined by Brenna Davis, Sr. Anne Victory, HM, and Sr. Cheryl Rose, HM to talk about the Covenant Companion Relationship through the Sisters of the Humility of Mary. This two-year formation process for lay people guides participants to take a vow of humility. We talk about how the idea arose and what it means to live the vow of humility in our daily lives. Brenna shares about her experience as a participant and Sr. Anne and Sr. Cheryl discuss the origin and continued evolution of this new way of being, including the new kinds of relationships that were formed between Sisters and lay partners.
 
About the guests:
 
Brenna Davis is the Director of Education for Justice and Environmental Initiatives at the Ignatian Solidarity Network. Breanna has been a participant of both the JOY: Just One Year program and the Covenant Companion Relationship. Brenna graduated from Boston College in 2010 with a B.A. in theology and Spanish. After graduation, she moved to Cleveland as a Jesuit Volunteer. Brenna has worked at Saint Martin de Porres, Cleveland’s Cristo Rey High School, as a theology teacher and cross country coach. She is a certified spiritual director, Cuyahoga County Master Recycler, and is a member of NCR’s EarthBeat Advisory Panel.
 
Sr. Anne Victory is a member of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in Cleveland, Ohio and currently serves on their leadership team. She began her ministry in health care as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain. Sr. Anne served two terms on the HM Leadership Team from 2001 to 2009. She joined the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking as director of education, served until July 2021, and received the Bishop Amadeus Rappe Award from Ursuline College for her work with the Collaborative.
 
Sr. Cheryl Rose is a member of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in Cleveland, Ohio. She served for 26 years as a high school educator, teaching chemistry, physics, theology, and prayer, as well as holding ministerial roles. She currently provides spiritual direction for individuals and groups, leads retreats, and is engaged in programming focused on spiritual growth and contemplation. Sr. Cheryl has co-led the year-long retreat, JOY: Just One Year, which offers women a one-year immersion in spiritual growth and formation, and she continues to provide virtual and in-person retreats during the pandemic.
